I am very excited to be running my first yoga retreat. I have chosen Blue Caves Villas on the beautiful Greek island of Zakynthos 🙂
My goal of the retreat is for you to have lots of fun, make wonderful new friends, improve/enjoy your yoga and come away feeling fantastic!
This retreat is for anyone, whatever your level or experience of yoga and whether you’d like to come with friends, partner or alone.
What is special about Blue Caves?
I was drawn in by its unique location, by the ocean, on top of the spectacular caves, with direct access to the sea (100m down the steps) and to a spectacular ‘Priest’s Cave’ which a monk allegedly used for meditation in the old days. The sea in the cave is a blue-green colour and crystal clear, beautiful for swimming, kayaking & snorkelling.
The villas are situated on private land of over 40.000 sqm offering breathtaking panoramic sea views, to the North Eastern part of Zakynthos, Alikes, Vassilikos and Kefalonia Islands. More info can be found here.
We will be doing 2 classes per day in our private yoga shala, overlooking the water (some classes I am hoping to do on the beach too) and there will be something for everyone, no matter what level or experience you have. All classes are optional.
AM: The Morning class will be dynamic, ‘Yang’ style. Incorporating lots of moments of silliness, fun, being creative and trying new things. Each day will have a different theme and different ‘goal pose’, which we will be specifically working on, for example one day we may focus on improving our backbends and another, on mastering the headstand. I am used to teaching beginners so please don’t worry about your current level. Picture of the beautiful yoga shala below …
PM: The early Evening class will be ‘Yin’ (restorative) style. Little physical effort is required and you will come away feeling like a new person! Yin involves mainly lower body floor based poses which you hold for a few minutes each, to get into the deep connective tissues with a heavy focus on relaxation.
Meals will be vegetarian, including vegan options, cooked by a private chef, Lisa Aanes, who specialises in yoga retreat catering.
Lise Aanes is a Norwegian plant food advocate living in London. She has studied nutrition and healing diets at the School of Natural Medicine UK, she believes that mindful eating is the key to fight the diseases that are wreaking havoc with our health and with the health of our planet.
Lise will be using locally sourced, fresh ingredients to make our beautiful. Fruits, veg, herbs, olive oil and wine is grown on the land, so we are hoping to be eating plenty of food grown on site.

You will never be hungry, and if you ever are, there will be an open fridge that will have snacks and yummy delights for you to eat. Although food will be healthy, don’t worry it will be satisfying…. think homemade granola with yogurt and homegrown fruits, homemade bread, hummus, veggies with greek feta, cheesecakes, dahl, guacamole….
(This will probably change slightly but full days on retreat look something like this):
7.30 – 8am: fruit, teas, coffee, snacks
8 – 9.15am: Morning Yoga
9.15 – 9.30am: Meditation
9.30 – 10.30am: breakfast/brunch
FREE TIME, explore the island, swim, read, rest, do what you please! There will be lunch served during this time for those who are around.
5.30pm – 6.30pm: Yin Yoga
6.30 – 7.30pm: Glass of wine/juice/chill time
How to get there
Flights to Zakynthos are direct from many UK airports and relatively inexpensive.
Blue Caves is 30 kms from the main airport of Zakynthos (1 hour drive) – I can help arrange transfers.
My reccommendation: if you are wanting to spend a few nights before or after the retreat in the beautiful island of Kefalonia, this is just a 1 hour ferry boat ride across. Blue Caves is just 2.5 km from the port which will get you there. It looks beautiful too, I’ll be heading there for a few nights post retreat.

The small port of Agios Nikolaos is only 2.5 km from Blue Caves Villas where you will find plenty of traditional tavernas, restaurants and cafés along its promenade, in addition to small supermarkets and an easy accessible beach with free sun beds.
I will be renting a car for grocery shops and should we need it for emergencies. Possibility of it also being used for day trips e.g. to the shipwreck.
